5 Steps!!

May 30, 2008

Yesterday, in an effort to gain access to my laptop, Jonah took 5 successful unaided steps.

Shortly thereafter, in an effort to recreate his feat, he took a rough spill, bruising his head on the side of an end table.

Here we go….

Another check-up

May 29, 2008

We visited the doctor today for Jonah’s 9-month check up. Waited a full hour in the exam room to see our pediatrician…which…was…fun.

The report: Jonah’s very healthy. He’s a lean little guy at just 19.5 pounds (38th percentile), but tall at 28.75 inches long (67th percentile). And he still has a freakin’ huge head! (90th percentile)

He’s been exhibiting signs of separation anxiety lately – which the doctor says is right on cue and should peak at about 12 months before easing off. He’s only a little nervous around strangers, when either Mom or Dad is in the room, but if we try to leave him — let the screaming begin! It’s terrible at night, when he refuses comfort from Matt.

The doc says that with the nighttime stuff, we should give in — or the problem will just get worse. But during the day, we need to encourage him to play by himself.

So! If anyone has good ideas on “encouraging” a very mobile 9-month-old to play independently (without chasing me into the next room) I’d love to hear them! 🙂

I stole these from Joanne’s Facebook and Myspace pages — so a couple of them are a little small. Wanted to share because the babies were so cute together.

And here’s the birthday girl!

Our friends Cody and Joanne returned to Missouri to celebrate their adorable daughter’s first birthday with family and friends. Little Sylvie had something like three parties in three days — you can tell she’s loved! 🙂 And though this video doesn’t really include much of the birthday girl, we’d like to wish her a very happy second year of life.

We have some steps!

May 24, 2008

Jonah isn’t walking yet…not by a long shot. But over the last few days, he’s gained the confidence to take a few unassisted steps. It’s usually when he’s so excited about getting somewhere that he doesn’t think too much about it.

Then, as soon as he realizes what’s going on, he drops down to a crawl.

It’s much safer down there. 🙂

Deanna Rose Farmstead

May 18, 2008

Per Amy’s suggestion, we visited the Deanna Rose Farmstead earlier this week. It’s a great 12-acre park, complete with cows, horses, bobcats, owls and, of course, goats. Jonah had a blast in the petting zoo. He was walking around so fast we could barely keep up with him. All the while he was just babbling away — and letting loose the Jonah “aaaaaahhh.” (Oh, and for those in the KC area — it’s free!!)

A diner stop

May 15, 2008

As many of you may know, we’re vacationing this week — at home. It’s been great to spend time together, all while sleeping in our own beds and keeping Jonah on his nap schedule.

Here’s Jonah sampling his first grilled cheese at a local diner.

Then he offered Mama a kiss.
