Emery Anne Frye

June 14, 2009

A beautiful little girl joined our family on Saturday, June 6 at 10:09 p.m. She weighted 8 lbs, 5 oz and was 20 inches long. After much deliberation, we named her Emery Anne.

She was born at home, with the help of a certified nurse midwife. In fact, labor progressed so quickly that she was born in the bathtub — guided out by Matt. We didn’t even have time to fill up the birthing tub.

So far, Emery is a little spitfire. She has a cry that can break glass and she uses it whenever she’s even the slightest bit upset. 🙂 But she’s also a very sweet newborn, who loves to cuddle. Almost any displeasure can be resolved with a little bit of skin-to-skin contact.

We’re totally crazy about her already. Both of us just sit and stare at her. My favorite thing to do is watch her wake up…all the baby noises and stretching. Makes my heart ache. We’ll have to get it on video to share.

Jonah is a great big brother so far. He is extremely gentle with her and already lovingly calls her a “silly girl.” Speaking of Jonah, he has changed dramatically in the past few weeks. Matt and I joked that perhaps my Mom switched him with another toddler while he stayed with her for a few days. He is just amazingly verbal all of sudden. He’s speaking in three to four word sentences and using all kinds of new words. It’s amazing!

Here are a few pictures of the new arrival.
