One kiddo
May 15, 2016
With the big kids at a sleepover, we had some time just with Isley tonight.
We cuddled and snuggled her in bed. And after Matt gave her a tight sneeze and got up to leave, she said:
“I miss…go…”
Toddler speak for: “I miss you when you go.”
She kept trying to say it perfectly and it was so moving. I had tears in my eyes. She loves him so much. And she wanted him to know that, when he goes, he is missed.

Bowling
May 1, 2016
Took the kiddos bowling for the first time and it was more fun than I anticipated. Jonah took to it right away, breaking 100 on his very fits game. Even Isley pushed down a ball or two. I love this picture because right before it J and Em were helping Lou roll the ball down. They understood that it was hard for her and wanted to help. I love seeing them work together!

This brave, sweet little one lost a tooth today. She had a bad fall on to her teeth back in January and the dentist warned us that the injured teeth could develop an abscess. Yesterday we noticed a swollen spot above one of her teeth, indicating an infection. She did so great at the dentist, so great that the dentist and the nurse commented that she was the bravest, sweetest, most docile one-year-old they’d ever worked on. I didn’t tell them that she never sleeps, yells NO all the time and that yesterday it took Matt, Jonah and myself to hold her down and brush her teeth. 😀 We are hoping the other three teeth will stay put for awhile!!

My Lou

Just needed to share a few Eloise-isms, so we don’t forget!
She drew me a lovely picture, but forgot – she said – to add hands and fingers.
“I know we have hands and, you know, fingers and thumbs and stuff,” she said.
Then she looked down at her hands, carefully, as though seeing them for the first time.
“Unless..:I’m dreaming…”
Next one:
Today, she’s riding in the car when, out of the blue, she asks the following:
“Mom, okay, so Mom. How were there like dinosaurs…and then, they all died…and then there were people? I mean, who was the first Mom? And how did she become..if she was the very first Mom?”
Last one:
She participated in the robotics showcase today and when the interviewer asked about the part of their model that was supposed to be about their regular meetings, the interviewer said:
“So that’s kinda what your meetings looked like then?”
Eloise looked up at her like she was crazy, and said:
“Yeah. But we’re not that little!”

Holding Em
March 4, 2016
Tonight, after I got the littlest one to sleep, I stopped by Emery’s room to check on her. She was all cuddled up in her hammock from Costa Rica, my bear from college by her and her quilt covering her body. I hugged her and for just a second, she felt like the swaddled babe is held so tightly years ago.
And I wept. For what I’m missing and for the me, 20 years from now, that will miss having my sweet daughter just across the hall from me. I kissed her all over. Her face. Her arms. Her sweet wrists and hands.
She stirred just a bit. Her eyes peeked open and she cupped my face in her hands.
“I love you so much, mama girl.”
Then she closed her eyes again and was gone. Back under the sweet covers of sleep.
Six years old. My baby girl.
I will forever adore you.
